jinma 204 3point hitch adjustment

I have a new 204. When I use the 3 point it won't stay put. It gradually goes down. Also it appears I have 3 positions. Does it have a float position? And is there a adjustment so when I lower it to a certain position it will stay there?

HI Daven,
THe 204 lift is controled by a simple 3 position valve: Up, down, and in the center it is supposed to hold. There is no hydraulic down pressure so when down it will float up to follow ground contour.. If you are talking draft control, I have not seen it on the 200 series, but it is available on the 300 series (20-35HP).

If your lift will not stay up, the most likely cause is a damaged/worn seal on the lift piston (O ring between two plastic rings). This can be repaired fairly simply. first raise the lift to the highest possible setting, drain the oil, remove ther rear cover from the lift housing (it is where the top link attaches to the tractor) from there you wil see the piston in the cylinder. manually raise the lift arms to withdraw the rod from the center of the piston and remove the piston. you will likely see parts of the plastic ring in the bottom of the lift housing. after you repair, adjust the stop so the lift will not come so high that the piston rings come out of they cylinder, this is when they get sheared, often after use of a post hole digger or other implement where the lift is raised to the max (well technically a little beyond). Sometimes new ones are damaged simply by raising the lift too high. the adjustment to prevent this is on the rod that is attached to the control valve.

Since your tractor is new, you might check with your dealer.

Thanks for the help about the location of the piston and what to do for repair. I do have a 3 position lever(actually 4 counting neutral) so what is the one all the way forward? Thanks Dave

There is extra travel in the lower position (forward). I think this is necessary for the stop mechanism on the rod to have room to work.

Thanks for your input. You are correct, once I went and looked at it closely. The rod has a high and low stopper and might be out of adjustment in high.I'll reset the adjustment so it won't go so high before it disengages. There is a adjustment devise right below the seat. Kind of a screw type deal (with a large head) Is that for adjustment as to how fast or slow it drops and raises? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Daven: yes that adjustment under the seat is for how fast the 3pt will lower for a given impliment, if using a heavy box blade it is ste tighter if using an empty 3pt ccarryall then it needs opened up a bit.

<font color="red"> :NOTE: there is a SET SCREW in the front just under that KNOB that needs to be loosened BEFORE turning the knob!!! it LOCKS the knob inplace and it will damage the threads some if left tight. </font>

it is a small flat head screw and is about 1" under the knob in-line with the threaded bolt.
<font color="blue"> :NOTE: also make sure that the 4 bolts holding that lift adjustment plate on are fully tight. many have been shipped form factory with those bolts loose some and when you lift a heavy 3pt implement it can blow the o-ring under there. it is easy to fix but you will get a hydraulifc fluid shower! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (don't ask me how I know... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif </font>

this weekend I had to tighten the wheel bolts on mine, first time since new almost 200 hrs now. lots of hilly travel and when I got back hoe on and was banging around rocks the wheel started to CRUNCH "really nasty sound" and would happen on a 1/2 turn almost sounded like a broken bearing!

I had some loose white rim bolts and the weight bolts were not really very tight either, I sugest a torque wrench for even adjustment, I set mine to 60 foot lbs on the weight bolts and 75 on the white rim bolts.

Ok Guys, I have the back open and i SEE the piston wayyyyyyyy up in there. I tried a magnet to pull it and no dice. How do i get it out? There must be some trick!! Thanks you guys for your help. Dave

I had hoped that raising the lift before you drained the fluid would have left the piston sticking out enough to get ahold of it.
Now you will have to take the front cap off the cylinder. It is the 4 bolts that Spiker talks about, but to get to it you will have to remove the trans cover. With the front cap removed, you can push the piston out either way.

Well I figured out a puller that might help someone else out that has the same problem. I took a piece of rod about 18" long and welded a screw to the end. Almost like a dent puller. There is a hole in the end. I just treaded it in a ways and pulled it out. It worked awesome. All fixed and scraps found laying in the bottom. Thanks so much for everyones help and i hope my little invention might help someone else who has the same problem. Dave

what size was the screw? 10MM? as I ahve not seen it and figure I've over extended mine about 10 times while dumping my dump trailer using the remote out aux connector as the dump means I ahve to RAISE the 3pt all way up. I ahve since started chaining the 3pt to the draw bar so I don't have the extension problem and my 3 pt seems to hold so probably NO CUTS: what size was the re-pack kit? something you found local or was an extra included in the kit? I forgot what you indicated with that.
