I doubt it, at least from the standpoint of being a universal explanation. I'm sticking with the engine mod idea. The YangDong/Jinma Y85 engine manual identifies two 385 variants:
Y385
Y385T
and three 485 variants:
Y485

YND485Q.
Further, the FeiDong/KAMA engine manual lists four variants of their 395 motor
395D (27hp)
395C (32hp)
395T1 (39.4hp)
395T (44.4hp)
the major differences being
a. governor type
b. max rpm
c. horsepower developed
d. injector type
e. pump timing
