Not if it's on the suction side - he'll risk cavitating (starving ) the pump. Some folks recommend 125-150 micron. I found I have acceptable cold weather flow with 80 micron, but I wouldn't go any smaller. If it's on the pressure side, that's a different story.Try a Napa 1553 30 micron for the hydraulic
-- this is the filter I run when above freezing and it has worked fine for a couple of years now -- it is cheap enough that I throw it away in the fall . If you are afraid of it causing a problem or want to run larger micron screen type filter, Donaldson make a 1" - 12 thread wire mesh 150 micron filter that fits and costs about $25 CDN here. It is a Donaldson P25550274. Napa also have a 1614 that is more wide open and fits on my 2006 284 -- it too is an expensive filter. By the way on this debate in the past, nobody seems to be too sure what the micron rating of the original filter is I have never measured my return hydraulic flow to see if it is "acceptable" but I did a lot of research to find filters that fit and oil that met the specs outlined by some "experts" only to find it based on opinion not reality.
Ain't none, it's 80x80 brass mesh. I buy it in bulk and make replacements myself. But regardless of the form it takes, 80 microns is 80 microns
