I have two 3-point piston seal kits that I purchased from China. Both have more o-rings in the kit then I see installed on my tractor. Both have different sized o-rings that what is listed in the parts list for a Jinma 284 as well. My china supplier tells me the first kit is what he had in stock and the second kit is what Jinma sent him when he ordered the kit directly from them.

Assuming the kit from Jinma was the correct one I compared it with pictures of kits that domestic suppliers have up on their WEB sites, and each one looks different than the Jinma kit and different from each other! All the kits, domestic and Chinese have more parts than what then what is listed in the factory parts book too!

I have to imagine that the size of these o-rings is important so they should match the sizes listed in the parts book, and even though it can be hard to measure o-rings it痴 obvious that what I have (especially for the piston) is way off. The white washers for the piston are not cut so how do I get them on. On the domestic suppliers WEB site they are slit in 50% of the pictures. My supplier in China says 笛ust cut them? Are domestic suppliers cutting them for their customers or do I have the wrong part??

Moreover I have to believe that given the cost conscience nature of everyone these days I cannot see anyone, Chinese or domestic, supplying me with extra parts just for the heck of it.

So what gives? Is there a secret decoder ring somewhere? What are the sizes of these o-rings supposed to be? How many should be in the kit? Do people cut the white spacers or do they arrive cut in most cases? I realize there were several different designs for the lift over the years but my kit does not match any of the styles as described in the parts book so that can't explain all of this confusion!
:confused2:

I think that o-rings are cheap enough that it's more cost effective to send you anything you might need than to try to stock all the different variations.

Here's how I replaced the hard plastic seals on my tractor:

I heated them in boiling water to make them soft, then dipped in hydraulic fluid to make them slippery, and slipped them on.

Yup you are correct. I found that out after finally talking with Jinma's factory rep.

It's surprising that heating up the plastic washers got them to go on! Even Jinma just slits them to put them on (that's why there are two of them) according to the factory guy I talked to. I'll give it a try tomorrow and then do a write up so the next guy can avoid the same frustration.

Thanks for the input!

I may be wrong or I may be thinking of a different seal. Are the ones you took off slit? I think they would leak if you slit them.

Well I dare call them a seal. The appear to be more of spacer on either side of an o-ring; which I assume is what keeps most of the oil behind the piston. Yes the ones I took out (or rather found at the bottom of the sump) were slit. Some pictures on the WEB show them split and some do not so it is hard to tell what they should be - but it sounds like they may have been supplied split in the past and whole these days.

I also thought it odd that they would be split if they were responsible for holding pressure. But then again I thought the exact same thing the first time I saw piston rings - and they work alright. In any event we shall see if it works any day now .......if I can just get my chores done and back outside to finish the job up :D

Cheers
