Believe me, it's tempting and I've been thinking about filtering it and reusing it. I've got one of those big filters on the return line but I have visions of crap ruining my pump, clogging the valves, etc....all to save on two quarts of oil.

For just a few quarts, it probably isn't worth it... You can wait and fix it all when you get back from China...

So I have a LW-7, with approx. 100HRS on it .. both of my swing cylinders have cracked right where the trunnion is welded to the cylinder barrel. I have welded up the cracks, and removed the cylinder for re-packing and testing . I took them to a local hydraulic shop in Prince George and told them to do just that , re pack and test both cyclinders ....
A few days go by and I get a call from the shop and they tell me that one cylinder needed its rod re-cromed and cylinder machined and repacking the seals for a total of $900 !!
The second cylinder was worse. They told me they had to cut the piston off of the rod and make a new Piston ,replace/re crome the rod, repack the seals and test fro $1800 !! Thats about double the cost of new ones I figure,, Anyone wanna guess why they want so much money?

Can anyone tell me what brand new swing cylinders are worth? My guess is less than 1000$

Take a look online. For example, Keno Tractor sells swing cylinders for $350.

well they sure value their work... probably cheaper to replace them. Look closely at the structure, I noticed on my LW-6 BH, the swing exceeded the available mechanical range of the cylinders, basically it can try and bend the fully extended cylinder around the structure at full swing. If yours can do this, that is probably where the cracks and rod wear came from...
