My manual says 3.86 qts, but that's not saying with or without a filter change. I agree, it's lacking in info. Mine took an even 4 qts, and looked good on the stick and about matched what I drained out, but that's a hard way to tell. Oh, that's replacing the filter.

That's interesting Rick. I was under the (apparently false) impression that there was little difference between the Y380 and Y385 other than cyliner bore. Since the Y385 engine oil capacity is 6 liters, the Y380 crankcase must be different as well.

That's interesting Rick. I was under the (apparently false) impression that there was little difference between the Y380 and Y385 other than cyliner bore. Since the Y385 engine oil capacity is 6 liters, the Y380 crankcase must be different as well.

Actually, the manual says 3.68 qts. I got my numbers reversed. I was looking at the Nortrac site and your right about the differences between the 380 and the 385. The 385 is listed as holding 6.36 qts. There must be a sump on that engine pan. Mine is pretty flat on the bottom. There's a Northern Tool about 40 miles from me and last time I was there they had a 25hp 385 on the lot. I'll have a look now that you got my curiosity up next time I'm out that way.

That makes sense for the Y385; six liters is the equivalent of 6.34 quarts. Just didn't realize the Y380 held that much less oil
