Oil expands when it gets warmer so it seems like there is more oil, but there isn't (for all practical purposes). Also, the oil will become slightly aerated from use, another reason it seems like more. This coefficient is considered in the design of the pump & governor. I wouldn't drain any more out after the initial fill.

Right, that's my point in describing the renewed drip when warmed after filling cold - that with this model at least there is less need to be concerned about overfilling.
