Jinma 284LE 06'
Hi all,

This is my first posting on this site. Great venue to share experiences about our big boy toys! ;)

I just bought an assembled JM 284LE 2006 and so far I am very pleased with the little workhorse! The one thing I wasn't very impressed with was the paint job on the hood. I know the hood is made of plastic fiber making the paint surface uneven, but still I can see gross differences in the paint thickness and even marks from what seems to be hand brushed paint! Anyhow, I know this is pretty irrevelant for the overall value of the tractor, but I just wanted to share this with you to know if any other users have the same paint quality, or if I was just unlucky. Either way I am very pleased with the tractor  I am just curious to know if the paint is indeed like this for all the Jinmas with the new hood.

By the way, have you guys seen this site? Chinese Tractor Maintenance - Wikibooks, collection of open-content textbooks
It has some really neat stuff, and any of you more experienced guys can add/edit thing into it, using the tabs on top of each page.

Thanks!
G

In general, Jinmas have poor paint quality.

It is usually hit and miss with how bad it is though.

I've had to repaint two tractors now because of Jinmas poor shipping practice.

Thanks Crazymike,

That's what my dealer told me too. In my case it wasn't the shipping but just plain crappy paint at the factory (I think). Funny thing is that the metal parts (fenders, ROPS, etc) have actually a pretty decent paint.

In any event, I can always shed a few bucks and get a fresh coat of paint. I am still pretty happy with the tractor ;)
BTW, in case anybody is interested I was told the exact color match to the red Jinmas is Rustoleum Safety Red. Any other suggestions?

Hey Geri,

I am very sorry,, to hear about the Painting Quality on your 284. However I have to report,, that on my 224XR,, the Painting Quality,, was absolutely Superb. No Runs, Drips, or Errors!!! I did however see a couple of very small miniscule spots that were touched up from Shipping.

There have been many reports of Cosmetic Reviews about the Chinese Tractors,, but I have to say,, that on my 2004, 224XR,, with 160 hours on the clock,, and after looking it over from Top to Bottom,, Stem to Stern,, I have not for the life of me,, been able to find anything of Significance wrong with the Tractor,, however I am on a Constant Vigilant Hunt to Find the Offending Culpret,, and will report the Problem,, when/if,, I find it.

I hope that you will enjoy your Chinese Tractor as much as I have enjoyed mine,, since I got it back in 2004.

Have a nice day,
Joe:cool:

Thanks for your comments Joe  I have seen the older models with the metal hood and the paint actually looks pretty good. I think the issue is with the fiberglass, being such an uneven surface.

I am already enjoying the tractor a lot! This weekend I am planning on moving a bunch of manure from the corrals, plow a small patch, etc.

Cheers, G

Hey Geri,,

The Hood on my 224 is FiberGlass and the Surface is Smooth as Silk...

Have a nice day,

I have the older fiberglass hood. It had a typical wear spot on the top of the hood, caused by contact from the crate stored on top of it during shipment. The paint also wears at the seams were the flip part of the hood comes in contact with the stationary part. You may also notice that your hood might have once been a different color. Mine was blue in another lifetime. Anyway it touches up fine, and with a little road dust after your first 100 hrs, you won't worry about the runs, etc.

JohnS,

That's what I figured. I already have a lot of dust on mine so you can't really tell. However, I was mostly worried for resale purposes....

what most of the guys siad is true, shipping crate damage is a likely culprit, mine has a pretty good wear mark, has since I took it off the truck that it arrived on with it 3 other tractors. mine and one other was the bottom two tractors stacked 2 high. the shipping crate on the top tractor bent down and rubbed on the two lower tractors. one was only about an inch wide and 1/2" long but ine is about 2" wide and 3" long and since I wasn't too concerned I took the worst one. the firts day I had it I drove it thourh a thorn bush thicket for clearing :D So I've added one or two scratches since then... ;) for resale, it is not much work to remove & repaint every thing if you wanted. like you the steel parts were painted slightly better than the fiberglass ones...
