If this thread should be posted under JD only, please let me know. - I ran into a JD 4200 4x4 W/FL the other day and was thinking you guys might know something about them like values, issues they have, general stuff etc. This unit has 500 hrs and looks to have been well maintained and no abuse, at least on the surface and having the Yanmar diesel engine.

With 500 hours it still has a lot of life left.
If it's what your looking for, and the price is right, go for it.

John, my thoughts as well. Not really wanting to buy this, just wondering what others in the know had to say. The 4200 is something I have not seen until this one so perhaps I should have said more curiosity on my part. Actually I am in the market for something bigger but also used..

A decent tractor, but has a reputation for being underpowered for it's size/weight, especially if it's a hydro transmission. However, it really depends on what you plan to use it for. Mowing and other light work, it should be fine. BTW, if it's a hydro, don't expect it to climb up a moderate slope in C range.
The Yanmar engines are great...good cold weather starting. Long lasting too...I've seen more then one with >5000 hours and still chugging along.

I have a 4200, bought it with 600 hours and it now has just under 900. The only issue i have run into is the brakes, the shaft that goes into the axle housing is steel and when it gets wet and sits it can corrode and stick. I move a lot of snow with mine as we live in Michigan's upper peninsula, so the moisture is unavoidable. This is easily corrected with PB blaster and some working of the pedals. I would also agree with the occasional need for more power, While i don't run into this often i just remind myself to slow down and take a different approach to whatever it is i am doing. When i bought mine i paid 12,500 4 years ago. This included the FEL, mid mount mower and a land plane.

Taget,
Thanks for the info; the one I saw had FL only, 500hrs and was $14,500. Seems high for something 15 yrs old but as I enjoy looking and this is something I had not seen before.

Regards,
Ricn
