JOHN DDRE RIDING MOWER PURCHASE

/ JOHN DDRE RIDING MOWER PURCHASE #11
I finally bought a new riding mower in 2002. JD G100. I think this is now incorporated into the X series. It's been a good riding mower and, Lord knows, I've used/abused it. Still on the OEM blades and drive belt. It not only cuts grass but a one acre meadow and Buck brush. It will smoke, choke & puke - but it just keeps on cutting.

My fear - should this old unit finally give up - I don't think a lot of the newer units would take the abuse. Too much "style" and not enough hard core performance.

Yep, old mowers are soooo much better built! My Scotts 2046, made by JD has been trouble free for 19 plus years, transaxle still good as is all else but the Briggs engine, that is now having issues. Not sure if it's worth a new motor soon and hate to buy new mower but not wanting to spend lots on this one if needing a new engine. I have mowed 2.5 acres all these years on rough ground that used to have horses on it so lots of bumps and holes to watch for. Fence lines, mole hills, tall weeds and rye grass, all that is tough mowing at times and never missed a beat. I may buy a SCUT with mid mount next time.
