John deer 950
Hello all,

I am new to the site and new to jd ownership. I purchased a earlier serial number jd 950 has power steering and loader. When I got it the loader was very very sluggish. I changed fluids, filter and cleaned screen. Fluids were dark and milky, screen was pretty clean.

Improved slightly but still very slow and sometimes jerky. 3pt runs as i believe it should.

Two questions:

1. I am being told with power steering a 950 loader is slow. Loader is 75 btw. What would normal speed be from ground to max height with power steering equipped?

2. What could be the problem with slow/jerky loader specifically lift arms.

Additional notes:
Performed cylinder test only dropped 1/4” in 24hrs. Curl seems to operate as it should, as well as 3pt. Problem seems isolated to loader lift and down pressure.

I also have a JD950 with a 75 loader. Haven't really used it much as I bought it with a rod knocking and just recently finished rebuilding the engine. I have tried the loader and mine doesn't seem slow. There are multiple videos online, mostly for units that were for sale, where they run the loader up and down. Those might give you an idea on speed and how your compares. I'll be glad to time mine for you but I currently have my front hubs off to re-seal. I also have power steering.

Did you clean the screen on the bottom side of the tractor. I have read that screen gets partially clogged and can be the culprit. I believe the spin on filter is part of the power steering system and I'm not sure if it plays a role in the fluids to the loader.

Is your unit 4WD?

I think there are two different hydraulic pumps with one being a little higher capacity. Might be interesting to compare part numbers on our pumps.

Drop me a message if I can be of help.

I did clean the screen filter, the screw on is added when power steering is on. But does also filter fluids to entire system. That is good as well. I did see the videos on line and your right prettt much all for sale and that痴 what I致e used to compare. Recently sprung a leak in the pressure steel line. So need to fix that first then back to testing. I知 lost.
