I got a JD LT155 in my shop that I am storing for the winter for a friend. It is a 2006 model.

I didn't see an hour meter but I really didn't look all that hard. I will look more today if I get time.

The mower needs the complete hood assembly. It is on the mower but broke up and will not stay on. It runs great and the deck looks good. The just installed a new battery so it fired up when I moved it yesterday great.

It belonged to the persons dad who passed away. I am just doing the person a favor letting him store it until he finds a buyer. Yesterday he told me they wanted $400 for it. I don't know anything about these mowers . Is that price even close to the value ? I noticed these hoods are quite expensive. I could actually use a shop mower as I have about 1/2 acre of grass I cut at shop but sure don't want to pay for something I don't know the value on.

He said I could sell it if someone came in that might be interested but I sure don't want to run people away. It has the 15 hp Kohler engine.

TractorData.com John Deere LT155 tractor information

Tractordata.com says that the last year built was '01. Still, if the lawn-tractor runs great and was maintained then you should be getting a bargain at that price.

Yes, a new bonnet would be pricey 'new', but there must be sources for a parted-out LT155 (or similar).

Not sure what I got then. The hood that is just sitting on the mower says LT 155. Here is a picture of the engine. Maybe someone can chime in and let me know exactly what I got. Thanks engine.jpg

The tractor's serial number plate would be more helpful as that B&S would be used in a few different models

That Tractordata link will show where the plate is.

They are a nice rider. The decks are a bit more beefy than the models that followed. The transmissions did pretty well and the Kohler Command is a great engine. Should the steering skip or be hard to turn or the deck be close to rusting through, just pass. The hood ? Doesn't hurt a thing to run it with it off, unless cosmetically it bothers you. Pieces of the hood are serviced separately. In fact, the more common issue where it doesn't hold itself on at the pivot point is actually the front bumper most times.

I took a picture today from mower, not engine. Here is the info .

Steering seems fine.

Blades are rough. Not sure this mower was taken care of but it still looks ok. Oil is nice and clean.

Looks like someone has been cutting big rocks instead of grass :) Blades are no big deal. I drove it today and it runs great. Just sounds like the blades are hitting something when I engaged them. Do these blades have to be timed like I read on the older models ? I know it sounds like they are hitting one another when I engage them. Have not lifted it up yet to take a look.

I ran the serial number and it appears to have been sold new in March 2001 in Alexander City AL. Since engine appears newer, it must have been replaced at some point. The LT series were the entry level lawn tractors at that time, but they were tough little machines. The mower blades are timed. It has a toothed belt similar to a timing belt on an engine. Belt may be bad or someone had it off and didn't time it properly when they put it back together. If it had a good hood and is in nice shape, it might be worth $400 but with a broken hood and deck issues $200 would be a decent price in my opinion.

Thanks, that would be correct on the sale I would think. I live in that city and at the time we had a JD dealer in town. I bought JD parts from that dealer when I worked for a living :) They are now long gone. I really appreciate your time checking on this for me.

I just doubled checked. The steering is hard to turn with one hard spot when I turn far to left. Not sure it is worth a hood
