Backhoe John Deere 110 TLB Main Backhoe Bucket Pivot Pin - How do you remove these?

We need a little bit of help.

The main bucket/thumb pivot pin on our 110 TLB has stopped taking grease from two of the fittings. We want to take the pin out and clean the grease channels. But this pin is completely different from any other pin on the machine - see pictures. It's got an internal threaded hole on one end and a plate on the other

Has anyone removed this pin and could give us advice on the proper technique?

The end with the threaded hole should have a bolt and large flat washer that holds the pin in. I would get a longer bolt. Original was a 1/2" x 1" bolt. Get maybe a 3 or 4 inch long 1/2" bolt and screw it as far into the threaded hole you can get. Then hit the end of the bolt with a sledge hammer to see if it will move. If not, then most likely you will need to heat the end of the boom to try and free it up. Take care not to damage the boom. It is very expensive to replace, if it is even available. Last one I put on was around $5000 just for the boom, not counting other parts and labor to install. On that one, the same pin you have that is too tight, was so loose that the pin kept snapping off from all the slop in it.

Have you tried replacing both zerks, and then using a "grease buster" from Lock-n-Lube, and filled with Kroil??

Thanks everyone, but this is still a mystery:

- There's no bolt going through the pin that we can see.

- There's no bolt and large flat washer holding the pin in that we can see, the threaded hole is empty like in the picture.

- We have tried clearing the Zerks without any luck (we've got a Zerkazapper like tool).

We actually can't figure out what holds this pin in place....

It's pressed in you can try pounding it out from the bolt side and put a pipe wrench on the other side and twist well somebody hits the other end

We actually can't figure out what holds this pin in place....

If you can borrow an Enerpac portable hydraulic press unit,( a common auto body shop tool ) you might be able to press that pin out.
Placing the bucket between two concrete walls, and using a hydraulic jack as a press might work too, if you can find a suitable location to do that.
Or put one side of the bucket against a wall, and borrow a friend's tractor (you are in VT.) to act as a portable jack backstop.
Tap, and turn the opposite end with a pipe wrench also, while at the same time applying hydraulic jack force.
I would be wary of putting a bolt in that bolt hole and then hitting it hard.
You could damage the bolt hole threads, though they could then be chased with a thread tap later.

Almost looks like it's been welded in place (picture on the left). Is the thumb a Deere accessory or added later?

That's just the flange of the pin. It can't go out from that side. Only from the other side (right picture).

That pin will come out, but needs some meaningful hydraulic force to push on it from the side with the bolt hole.

Maybe weigh the potential outcomes from just leaving it in place.. ?

We are now pretty sure that our pin should have a 1/2 inch bolt and large flat washer on the side with the internal threaded hole (see picture)... I'm guessing that it's been missing for some time, and the only thing holding the pin in is that it's stuck.
We're going to replace those before trying to get the pin out...

The washer and bolt, when they are there, obviously act as a pin retainer!

I would try using a high pressure electric grease gun. The DeWalt puts out 10,000psi. That thing is incredible for stuck pins.

We do know that the pin comes out from the flange end ...

Had one of these that we've never used:

Turns out it generates less pressure than our Lincoln manual gun - from box to garbage in 30 minutes...

We'll order one of the Dewalts and give it a try.
