I recently purchased what appears to be a John Deere 2 Bottom trailer plow in pretty good condition. A standard clevis won't fit through the hitch attachment of the plow and I think something is missing as the trip/release function of this plow wouldn't operate correctly if attached with a clevis. Here's a picture of what I have. Unfortunately, I only took this one picture and the plow is at my farm. It'll be another week before I get back to get more pictures. Any ideas about what I need and where to find it would be appreciated. Thanks!

If a clevis pin can fit through the opening you can attach one of those "twisted clevis" shackles (standard clevis bent 90 degrees) to your tractor and then a standard clevis to the plow with the clevis pin going through the opening.

It will end up being like a giant chain with just two links but it should work.

The problem will be that the plow will want to twist unless you have a stout ground wheel. More pictures would help as you are already aware.

The correct clevis for those plows were a "D" ring with flat bar (all one piece), that bolted to two holes in the tractor drawbar.

Thanks... Even a regular clevis pin is too large to fit thru this small opening. Does anyone have a picture or source for this "D" ring/flat bar setup?

You would probably have to have one made at a welding shop. Could be made out of a regular clevis, lay the clevis on it's side, weld a 1/2" thick bar across the opening & a "Tee" off that. ~~ grnspot110

You could just give up on leaving it stock and weld something on the tongue that will hook to the tractor. A piece of 1/2" x 4" by 1' long flat bar with a hole punched (or cut) in it would work.

But that is a "farmer fix" that may not be aesthetically pleasing.

A peice of 2" by 1/4" flatbar (or a size that will fit through the plow hitch) about a foot long bent into a 'U' shape with the radius equall to the plows pin, drill holes through the ends, run it through the plow back your drawbar into it and drop a pin through.

Does this make sense?

Can you remove the cross bolt install a suitable clevis and just leave the clevis as a permantent plow part. That bolt looks as if its been there a good bit of time and will probably will resist removal.

I think I may have to consider a solid hook-up with a "homemade" rig. I was hoping to restore the tongue to the original, as I believe this was part of the trip mechanism that disconnects the plow from the tractor if the plow hits something that could damage it. The photo below shows the only image I could find from a web search that may be similar (this is not my plow.)

The other issue is that the original levers to raise and lower the plow have been replaced by a hydraulic cylinder that raises and lowers the plow. If I do find a way to restore the hook-up mechanism, I may be asking for trouble with ripped hydraulic lines or worse.

I can send you a picture of what you need. It is a clevis. I had the same problem but found the clevis hanging on a plow I pulled out of junk pile. If you wan a picture, write to me at Sykorahj@aol.com. Meanwhile, I am looking for the back wheel for a two bottom 14-16 in trailer plow
