John Deere seems to be the most popular aroudn here. I haven't seen very many "small" dozers around here. I'll check around and see what I can find!

Thanks!

Having a front loader is a must. I can't imagine imagine a tractor without one. Not only does the loader give the tractor more versitility, it makes it more stable when loading the back with emplements, giving the front more traction and helps keep the front end on the ground. Be sure to read the owners manual about using the loader. There are inherant dangers about carrying loads to high in the loader.
I know my tractor is a bit more than the cut user. I have had 4 rigs from the 245DT kabota to the 336D Yanmar, all nice tractors. By almost doubling my hp I get 3-4 times the amount of work done and I am able to load the dump truck from one side.

I'm definitely getting a front end loader, I was talking about the dozer type blade! I just wanted to know if the 4x4 tractor with a dozer type blade would do as much clearing as a dozer. I'm sure the dozer gets better traction?

mitchdb,

When you say a dozer type blade I'm assuming you just me a
front blade for the tractor. A FEL is for more useful than a
front blade. At least the ones I have seen.

I have a 4700 with a 460 FEL and a 4n1 bucket. I have cleared
lots of brush and downed trees with this combination. At times
a bulldozer would be nice but I have not been stopped from
doing the work I need to do because I'm using a CUT vs a
dozer.

A few years ago I was clearing a house site with my tractor
while a neighbor was having his site cleared by a dozer. I had
very few hours on the tractor at the point so I was not very
time efficeint but I was not that slowed compared to the dozer.
The big difference is that he left a HUGE mess. I did not. While
he may have pushed more stuff quicker he sure left a house
size pile of trees, rocks and dirt that is still an eye sore.

The problem with using a CUT to clear brush is that they are
not armored so you have to go slow. You can't go fast without
something getting broken or hurt as far as I'm concerned. My
land has lots of stumps, stump holes, rocks and hills. That
means move slow. Also a dozer can have a 6 way blade. I
don't know of a CUT that has such a thing. It could exists I
just have never heard about it.

I could be totally wrong. I just assumed the front blade could be used like a dozer blade.

4410 4WD Compact Tractor (35 hp)
ATTACHMENTS
74 Front Blade
Available in 54, 60, 66, and 74-inch sizes
Heavy-gauge steel construction, concave surface
Reinforcing angle welded to rear of blade for added strength
Two large coil springs help protect blade from impact damage
Hydraulic angling, 0 to 30 degrees

I am definitely getting a front end loader too, just thought that I could swap them out depending on the work. What exactly is a 4n1?

Thanks!

And I could be totally wrong as well .....

But unless the front blade has hydraulics you would have to get
off the tractor to change the blade position. My wife's
grandfather had a front blade like this and its rusting in the
farm yard.

A FEL especially with a 4n1 bucket if far more versitile. The
bucket can be used as a bucket. It can be opened and rotated
down to scrape the ground, rotate up and used as a dozer
blade and finally it can be used to grab things. Like logs and
stumps.

A front blade can only push. A 4n1 bucket is the most used
thing on my tractor. I use it constatantly. Take it away and
I would loose at least 50% of the usefulness of the tractor.

I do alot of land clearing. I have cleared two driveways. Built
one driveway. Cleared hundreds of yards of trails. Cleaned
up two house sites. And I'm constantly cleaning up from a
timber cutting operation. I may have to use heavy machinary
to finish the timber cleanup but the little tractor and a 4n1
sure has done lots of work.

Another advantage of the 4n1 is that when used like a dozer
blade the top/front of the bucket is raised in the air. So it helps
block/protect the front of the tractor from things that might
spear your tractor.

I do some serious mowing and I'm in the brush most of the time so here is what I came up with to protect the belly, and the tires from being poked. Haven't had a flat since I made these and the traction is suppurb. There is one for each tire.

I put this around the tire just so you can see. I widen out the stance when using for real.
