Loader John Deere 210 C stuck in first gear

My 210 C is stuck in first gear. No amount of pulling or pushing on the shift lever will move it. Has anyone experienced this problem. This is a 1990 4X4 with a 4 in 1 front loader and a rear box scrapper with rippers. I'm thinking maybe I can pop the top of the transmission off and look at the shift fork but would sure like to hear from others who have experienced this. I posted on repairs but got no response so thought I'd try here. Thanks,
