John Deere 2305
The belly mower on my 2006 John Deere 2305 fails to stay up in the transport position. Will stay in position for a few seconds and then drops to a lower level. What might be causing this? The mower has a hydraulic lift cylinder independent of the 3 pt. hitch. Mower otherwise works great!

Is this with the knob turned to the "locked" position. If it is, the indexing gear on the shaft below the deck isn't set quite right (or more likely, the sticker on the deck is off). Try moving the knob a little more into the install range and see if it will engage with highest setting.

Did it work before? The hydraulic system isn't intended to hold it up. It will raise it but it will then bleed back down to the height setting.

That's how it was designed, hyd. lift and gravity down. There is only 1 hydraulic line connected to the lift cylinder.

To hold it up, you have to turn the height adjustment dial between your knees to keep it up.

That is a great thought. I will move the knob around a bit and see what happens. It has worked in the past OK. The hydraulic system does slowly bleed down; the mower height adjustment just won’t secure the mower at the highest setting. Thanks for the suggestions; I will try them and check back.

The mower hydraulic system does slowly bleed down, but the mower height adjustment will not hold the mower in the highest position. Thanks for the thought.
