John Deere 2305
Total rookie owner.. first time removing backhoe on 2009 John Deere 2305.. in the process of removing it.. I pulled the hydraulic line more tight that it should have been and I lost hydraulics. In addition, if my ear is hearing it correctly, after this event, I am hearing a slight hum in the rear. I sense that the upper male connection into the tractor is culprit. I know this is vague, but any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to TBN

Can you give a bit more detail what happened here, like what is "more tight" and what is meant by "lost hydraulics" ??

Is the hoe off and you have no tractor hydraulics? or ??

Sorry.. let me explain: I was going through the process (first time) of removing the backhoe (260) from my 2305. I disconnected the two rear pegs holding the backhoe and began using the hydraulics to lift it off per instructions. All was good until I pull the backhoe away from the tractor a bit too far. The hydraulic line got tight. I quickly pulled back. Not excessive, but enough that I my heart skipped a beat. At that point the hydraulics were still connected and I prepared to square off the backhoe to get it into a storage position. I gradually started to lose hydraulics to the point that nothing would work. Previously it was working fine.

I disconnected the hydraulics, reconnected, and nothing. I noticed I was low on hydraulic fluid and put a couple of liters in it.

I tried again, nothing. I have noticed the following:

1. On the upper hydraulic connection (top right rear of tractor), on the backhoe male plug, the push pin in the center of the connector is very stiff and it does not move (on the other connector - female from the backhoe to the tractor, the pin moves easily). I am tempted to remove the connector to replace it but nervous if it is tight (are the backhoe hydraulics pressurized?). (it is already one day now)
2. A couple of times it pushed the upper right female connector off the connection upon start. I saw a bit of hydraulic fluid when that happened.
3. I hear a slight electrical hum that I don't think I heard previously. Not sure though as my ears are perked right now. Could it be the pump?

I hope this helps. My backhoe is off/disconnected and sitting awkwardly given that I could not finish the job.

For a first timer.. a bit of a mess!

From what I've read, I believe I should try to get that pin loosened on the connector. Put a towel around it and push it into the something solid to get it to release. I feel currently it is just not making a true connection.

THANKS Steve

On my 2305 I after unhooking the hoe, I use the outriggers to pick it up enough to get off of the hooks. Then shut the motor down and roll the tractor by hand just enough be away from the mount. When I hook the hydraulics back up the engine is off and I move the joystick back and forth to relieve any pressure, then hook it back up. It sounds like you do not have the back fitting on the tractor on correctly and fully seated. Happened to me before it looks like its fully seated but its not.

As you wrote your reply.. I went out and pushed the pin in on the male connector (using towel around it).. it worked.. and I am now back alive (still challenged to get it aligned but I will do it).. so that is good. When it rains it pours though.. I may have a leak of hydraulic fluid... or I overfilled it.. 1-IMG_20140803_175814704.jpg... as I was adding some additional fluid.. seemed to leak from spot labeled on picture.. solved one.. now another.. THANKS!

If you have a leak get a piece of white notebook/typing paper and use that by holding near connectors to find a leak. You really don't want hydro fluid under pressure hitting you.
Good luck

If you have a leak check by the hydro filter, there is a pipe plug by it (not the drain plug). Mine was dripping and the plug was about a thread from falling out. Mine has a skid plate on which made it hard to tell where it was leaking from.

Where is the hydro pump located on the 2305? I don't have the service manual. I assume it is near the top of the rear unit under the hydro fluid input cap? The leak is happening right there (below left of seat). THANKS

Am thinking your hydro pump is on the front side of the center housing, near/above the hyd. filter. And yes, near the hyd input pipe.
Look in jdparts.com for all the parts on the 2305.
Also the manual shows it. OMLVU23228_B0
