I found a dealer in Texas Hurst Farm Supply with the best deals on JD tractors I've seen. They are close to 30% off the MSRP. But, Texas is a long way from SW MI. Just curious if there are any JD dealers near SW MI that will deal. Everyplace I've looked so far pretty much just quotes the MSRP.

Also, anyone have any experience with Hurst? What are your thoughts?

Rocky have you looked at the Muttons web site? (Indiana)

They are somewhat like Fosters JD outside of Houston. They usually "package" tractors with trailers and attachments. Also, they don't always have the most coveted tractors. Seems they sometimes have 2WD when you expect 4WD, and shuttle trannys instead of hydrostatic. Just make sure you read all the fine print.

PS. I just looked and they have 3032e and 3038e but with the cheaper FELs. Just make sure you compare apples to apples.

I checked out Mutton's web page and will be contacting them.

Do they have website? I like to look :D

Seems one dealer bought up all or most the the dealers in my area of SW MI. They have 9 or 10 locations.

I like to have a dealer who knows me and I can trust. The several times over the years he saved my butt is worth the little extra I paid up front.
Just my two cents.
My guy got me parts when my tractor was a month out of warranty, saved me several hundred bucks I would have had to go after Deere for. Tractors break, it's a fact of life.

You are correct in your assesment of buying local. I'm all for a good dealer and paying a "little" more. If I could find a tractor locally for a little bit more, I'd buy it.

As an example, I can save over $3,000 buying from the out of state dealer. Probably not enough to justify the 20+ hr 1 way trip when you factor in expences. However, if you can save this much within a 200 mile radius, it would be worth it to me.

While it would be nice to buy local, the experience would not be worth $3000 to me. If I had to put a number on it, I'd go with your several hundred example + expenses to pick it up. So, the further I would drive, the better the deal would have to be. My decision point would be in the $500 - $600 range for anything within a 200 mile radius of me.

Thank you for the input and giving me something else to think about when making a decision.

Hi Rocky,
I understand what you're saying and I acknowledge that everyone's situation is different but here's something else to think about. I was working with my first tractor several years ago when the tranny stopped working and all I could do was creep back and forth. We were in the middle of scraping the barn after winter and had a lot left to do before we could bring the animals back in. I called my dealer and he sent his mechanic up who found a pin had fallen out of the pedal shaft. We were back to work in a couple of hours. How do you put a price on that?
