John Deere 3720 bucket won't lift much weight

I was out today moving wet crushed rock with pit rock dirt mixed in very dense very heavy wet. I had to put my carry all on and add 1500 ish lb of wood onto it as ballest. The 300cx can make the cab tractor back wheels float. Also I am using a 73 inch bucket and lifting it full.

Thanks for the info all - there is definitely something wrong with my 3720 - it just won't lift much weight - I'll have to talk to the local JD dealer - $$igh

You have not told us if the tractor is working at the correct psi. The relief pressure.

JJ and everyone - thanks for the responses - I have no way of checking (and don't know how) to see if the tactor is working at the correct psi or what the relief pressure is.

Here is the answer to that.

Purchase and install a 3000 psi hyd gage in a tee at the IN port of the FEL valve.

It is very useful for monitoring and trouble shooting the tractor hyd system.

Here are some test kits made by some TBN folks. Coat about $30.

After installation, extend a cyl fully and observe the pressure that is being relieved.

If it is not close to the tractor rated pressure, you can adjust it to specs, using shims or turning an adjusting nut.

If you still can not pick up an average load, then your bucket is probably to large for your tractor.
