Loader John Deere 4010

Well I finally found a John Deere tractor that was in my budget, runs good, and in pretty good condition. I'm going to pick up this 4010 tomorrow if I can get off work at a decent time.
My question now is how difficult will it be to add a front end loader to this tractor? I've already found a Koyker loader that comes with the brackets for a 4010. The guy with the loader says he has a valve that I can buy for any extra $75. The tractor only has one set of rear remotes so I don't want to tie them up with the loader hoses. This will be my first John Deere tractor, is this a task for someone with more experience, or could a fairly mechanically inclined guy manage? Also would I need an open center valve or closed? Is there anything else that I need or you can think of that I'm missing?
Any advice/comments will be greatly appreciated.

Sold tractor, need to sell loader. Koyker brand with brackets to fit the 10,20,30,40 series John Deeres, you could modify to fit others. No bucket, have hay spear.

I have a 4020 and installed a Farm Hand loader. The front end was too light to do any good. I had a 4050 front end installed on it and will handle anything the loader can lift. Very happy with it. Just need a bigger loader now.:licking: A 4050 front end might fit a 4010 also.

Do you have to have a special Kroyker bucket? I would have quessed it was an ANCI (skid steer) style quick connect bucket but your picture makes me wonder. Something is probably laying on the ground and not attached to the end of the forks? I really can not help you much. sorry.

You may need to copy and paste the above to get it to work.
The web site give much info and detailed drawings and component brakedown. You may need to purchase a part and should talk to the mfg. 800-456-1107

PS I looked for the model number in the Craigslist for Huston and could not find the model number nore the ad. I did see a used bucket for sale on Craigslist Huston off of a Kubota that would probably snap on. You would probably want to paint the orange to green to match the Kroyker/Deere.

Yes you most definitely need a closed-center hyd valve on a '61-'63 4010. If you have mechanical skills and common sense you can install a frt end loader. I have installed more frt end loaders than I care to count. You can tee into the SCV supply line and route return oil to the rockshaft return line on LH side by hyd filter. For normal loader work the factory wide frt axle is more than adequate.

Thanks Tx Jim I'll make sure that the valve this guy has is closed center.
My loaders primary function will be feeding round bales this winter, if the front end can't handle a round bale I'll be looking for another model pretty quick.

Deere has two model 4010's I was looking at the newer low power unit on the Koyker web site link. It does has your information for a large 80hp.

Nice looking tractor and the sheetmetal looks to be good and complete too. Also noticed it has two inside mounted wheel weights on the rear wheels which should help for loader work.

I think it will be fine for your bale moving. I moved a many a bale with a 4020.

I agree as I've witnessed many 3020/4020 wide frts with loaders that the factory frt axles have lasted very well. It gets back to what I stated earlier

When I boutht the 4020, it had a Farm Hand loader. The front end was too light to handle a one ton bale or a buckt full of wet soil. A 4050 front end replaced the light stock 4020 front end. It works very well. Compare the 4020 frond end w/the 4050. Much differance. I love my 4020 power shift, especially for baling. The Farm Hand cylinders are pretty light wt. If you bump them with something while lifting, they dent pretty easy. I have to run the rear pto in order for the front pump to work, seems to work ok, but seems like a lot of were on the rear one for doing nothing but turning. I have to engauge the baler to lift the bucket, that's kind of inconvenient.

I never knew there was any correlation to pto operation and hyd's on a 4020 except 1 thing. The pto brake piston( AR39774 BRAKE SHOE) must have a very large leak robbing the trans pump output. The trans pump operates on a 4020 PS no matter if the pto is engaged or disengaged? What type baler is making these 1 ton(2000 #) bales?

My front end loader runs of an auxillary pump. In order to enguage it, I have to turn rear pto on. All kinds of balers make one ton square or round bales. This one happens to be a Heston.

Some of the largest rd & sq balers may have the capability to make a 1 ton bale but I'll bet the greatest percentage of large rd & sq bales won't come close to actually being used to make a bake weighing a ton. I know for sure the bales being hauled into Texas from the North & East during this drought will be lucky if they get to 1/2 ton(1000#s). Some aren't weighing 700#s!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I'd add this pic showing the tractor after I installed the loader. I decided not to attempt to hookup the valve, I'm having my mechanic tackle that for me.

That is a good looking 4010! Up here we rarely see the clamshell fenders. Too much mud in the spring. If you have ever had a 5 lb ball of mud hit you in the head shortly after getting on the road you will understand. She looks good !!! Congratulations!!
