John Deere 410 two gear sticks whats there function

I am Looking at purchasing a JD410 it has two gear levers what is there functions
The left one when moved to the left and forward does nothing.

A bit more information would be helpful as to what model it is exactly.

If it is what i am thinking, a older backhoe, the left will be Park, high range and low range and the right will be 1-2-3-4 gears. If I am correct, what you found to the left and forward, would be park.

Thats correct. Left shift to left and forward is park. The other two positions are high and low range. Right stick is 1234 speeds as stated. It may help to know that 3rd and 4th speed positions are reversed from most machines. 3rd is back and 4th is to the front.

Thanks fellas it is like you say she is an old girl model 1980 s I think its a HD 410. When would you use Park postion just for parking I would imagine?
Not whilst you are operating have seen a few posts where a small shaft has broken in the transmission I wonder if that is what caused it.
Do you know where I can get workshop & Parts manuals preferably down loads.
Also I am in Australia best place for parts?
