1979 Ford 1500, Toro 455D 10' mower w/ Renault diesel,
I just bought a 3 cyl Yanmar diesel John Deere 430. It has a 60" heavy duty mower deck. It has 3 hydraulic levers. A friend sold it to me and he also made a HUGE grass catcher with a separate 5HP Honda engine.

But it seems to me that this has more uses than a lawn mower. I just saw an ad for someone selling a 3 point hitch for one of these, for $400. Not sure if that is high or low, or what. AND, what about a PTO? I read some other stuff about maybe being able to add a rear PTO??

Would this be better asked in Customization or Hydraulics section?

Just wondering what else I can use this for. We have a 1962 IH B414 gasser and I like this JD a lot better. But I know I won't have the same HP or bucket, etc..

thanks for any feedback. I could try to post a couple of pics if anyone wants to see what I have.

I have a 420 (gas version). I've added a Ruegg 3-pt to use a JD model 20 plow, 12". Have a 54" front snow blade, same 60" deck you have. Rear PTO is available if you can find one. Both PTO & hydraulic tillers are available, as well as snowblowers. Loaders are available too, both JD & aftermarket!

Go to Weekend Freedom Machines & look under "Model Info". ~~ grnspot110

I have a model 430. It is a great tractor--I really like it. I have a 60" mower, 47" single stage snow blower, 54" front blade, and cab. I have a 3pt but only use it for a homemade weight box.

hmmm, snowblower would be nice. But I don't think I'll sweat too hard to find a PTO, I think I'll just get the 3-point hitch for other uses. Bucket would be sweet tho. How hard to find something used/cheap?

Cheap? NO!!! Used are out there, but hard to find. If you don't need to lift high, something like a Johnny Bucket would be cheaper than a loader.

For the 3-pt hitch I'll stick with Ruegg, very good reputation!

where do i find Ruegg?

I may skip the bucket. I have an old IH B414 with a very heavy duty boom and bucket.... compared to anything I'll ever get for the JD.
