I have a John Deere 4310 tractor, it keeps shutting off in the middle of cutting grass. Fuse 5 keeps blowing. Have replaced water pump and thermostat without any changes in the way it runs. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thank you sooooo much!! I will do my best to investigate this!F5 might be a buggar to trace. Here is a list of all the connections to it. If it is only blowing when you are mowing my guess would be something the PTO circuit. Do you have a mid mount mower or just using the rear PTO?
Switched Power - Run - SST, ePowrReverser, and
eHydro Main Circuits:
In addition to the voltage present at the locations of the
unswitched power circuits, voltage must be present at the
following components during the following conditions: key
switch in the run position, transmission in neutral, PTO(s) in
off position, park brake locked, MFWD in unlock position,
operator off seat:
• Key Switch terminals 3 and 5
• Alternator terminal IG
• F5 Fuse
• X3 Connector
• Seat Switch
• Park Brake Switch terminals A, B, C and D
• X8 Connector terminals A and K
• Rear PTO Switch terminals A, D, F, G and H
• Mid PTO Switch terminals A, G and H
• MFWD Switch terminals 1 and 2
• V2 Diode Block terminals 1 and 2
• MFWD Solenoid
• K2 Start Relay terminal 86
• K5 Trailer Relay terminal 86 (if equipped)
• K6 Fuel Solenoid Timer Module terminals 30 and 87A
• K11 Rear PTO Interlock Relay terminal 86
• K12 PTO Interlock Relay terminal 30
• K13 Neutral Relay terminal 30
• K14 Mid PTO Interlock Relay terminal 30
• K15 Mid PTO Lockout Relay terminal 30
• K16 Mid PTO Relay terminal 30
Here is the wiring diagram. F5 is in the top left area near the alternator symbol. You can right click and save this to your computer to blow it up and scroll to the different connections.

Due to the age it should be a simple tractor with no computer. I don't know what fuse 5 controls - that information would be helpful. I'll surmise when the fuse blows you may lose power to a solenoid controlling fuel. With the newer tractors the fuel flow is stopped by a solenoid when you turn off the key. With older tractors it was done manually with a lever as the key only controlled charging the battery. I'd start there
We do not have a mid PTO. Rear only. What would you recommend doing first? I am a novice! All of the K7 through K16 relays are the same. Try swapping the turn signal relays with the PTO relays you are using. If you don't have mid PTO you won't have those relays in your panel.

Yes just when I mowIs the fuse only blowing when you mow?
Try swapping the turn signal relays with the PTO relays.
