John Deere 4400 Hydro need pinion gear front axle

Anyone know where I could pick up a used or aftermarket pinion gear for a John Deere 4400 hydro ?? I need one and John Deere parts wants $800 for a new one with a ring gear,they will not sell seperate.Post here or IM me either way if you can help.

Good luck hunting. Bet it is a JD only part. They don't make them standard sizes so the company can supply the parts. My corporation axle in a 3/4 ton HD Chevrolet truck is GM part replacement only... no aftermarket available. They have been out for ages and in large numbers... go figure.

I had to replace them on my Mitsubishi CUT.

Yep, only as pairs.

$800 is not bad.

Even my GMC 3/4ton set cost me $595.

If you find used, be sure to get the set as otherwise you will be looking again.

You might try West Kentucky Tractor Parts Inc . They sell a lot of used compact tractor parts. I don't think that you will be able to get any reputable place to sell you just a pinion. They are made as a set and are lapped in that way. If one piece breaks, then both pieces are thrown away.

I think it is a terrible price to pay,the little tie rod ends are $220 a piece on this tractor.
The rear axle housings are about $275 a piece ( if my memory serves me right) this price is a little more reasonable.

Hey,

When we did the pinion in our MF 35, they came as a pais it is was around $600!! Not too bad considering it will last a long time if not abused!!
