John Deere 4400
Hello all,
This is my first post, I have just been surfing and reading info for the last few months this forum is great. so anyway I have a JD 4400 that I bought used recently, I want to upgrade from an old rotary to a flail mower that has hydraulics for ditch and wall mowing like the link below.

http://www.value-leader.com/57-ditch-bank-flail-mower-w-hammers-installed-agl145/

There are two cylinders on the implement so I would need two controls 1 for each cylinder or 1 that is 4 way. Below I have attached a photo of the rear hydraulics I have at present.

as you can see I have numbered the hydraulic ports 1 and 2 feed either my 4in1 bucket on 430 loader or my mid mount mowing deck. I have a lever on the right side fender that controls these. 3 goes out and back into 4 and 5 has nothing on it. I recently bought this tractor so if any off you fellas could shed some light on what 5 is and if 3 and 4 could flow through a new control valve that I could some how mount and control this flail mower. If this is impossible I fully understand but from what I have seen in here almost anything is possible.
Thank you for you time and input guys

Oh yeah I have a pretty good understanding of mechanics and I can figure out a lot but I am pretty virgin when it comes to hydraulics and how the control valves work so please understand my lack of understanding, I am really interested to learn and want to see if I can make this work.

I have a question, is 3 and 4 a power beyond? if so I may be able to use this to power the hydraulics right?

3/4 in your drawing is the PB, that's what the loop is for-to keep the continous flow of oil.
1/2 is your 3rd SCV thats operated from the lever on the RH fender.
Those two items are the only extra OEM hydraulics JD offered.

Yes you can use the PB to add in another Open Center valve, hundreds of threads on this including this current one that discusses the basics: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/358763-power-beyond-jd-3203-looking.html

with power beyond you have it made. Come off of it and add as many hydraulics as you want. I had Brian at Fitrite hydraulics make up a control valve with three additional remotes. I mounted it to my ROPS and am good to go. I can disconnect the power beyond hoses and hook up to a backhoe if I want.

KennyD awesome I was hoping that's what 3/4 was.
so what is the 5 connection, it drops right back in to the rock shaft?
Any good tips on a control unit that could be mounted where the 3rd scv is now. Maybe I could just run a new lever? As well as the 2 that I need. A four lever unit. Either that or I was also thinking one joystick that could control the two cylinders on the flail mower?
Thank you again for all your information it is really appreciated.

Patchnball right on man for the info, any links or photos to get me on the right track with what I might need I like the idea of having more than I need for the future. I would be stoked to see your unit, that sounded bad. I mean the hydraulic controls you had setup. Thanks man

#5 is the direct return to the tank, bypassing the rockshaft valve. It's used when you have a backhoe mounted since you don't want/need the 3PH working then.
