John Deere 4400 reliability.Is green a myth ?

I currently have my tractor setting in the barn,split in two going to have to replace shifting fork for low/medium/high range come Weds. $97.00 for parts but the work involved is tough.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( I've had some minor issues with my 4310 - the most annoying relates to the wiring underneath the tractor. I hope on ANY subsequent re-design that they channel the wiring through some sort of protection. It's crazy how they've left it exposed on the underside - I caught it up again this past weekend - and that was after I "armored" all the wiring with duct tape /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. Back to the drawing boards... I may have to buy real underbody armor yet. But other than that mine has taken a beating and keeps coming back for more. )</font>

Excuse me for butting in, but it occurred to me when I read your post that you might be able to use some schedule 40 PVC pipe to protect the wiring. You could either cut it in half lengthwise and attach it to the underside or a side rail, or cut a slit in it wide enough to allow you to tuck the wires into it then use hose clamps to close it up and attach it to something on the bottom of the tractor.

Just an off the wall thought from someone who drives through a lot of brush and worries about snagging stuff under a tractor.

A bunch of $$$$,not to mention my tractor being out of the loop for at least a week and not being charged for some frivilous things like paper towels and cleanup of the tractor and getting the tractor back and the headlights not working and calling the dealer to tell them and being told they did not work when I brought the tractor in.
Plus I know the work is being done right.
The dealer is not touching my tractor again.

I have a friend who does all of the work on my 4200. He recently replaced the axle housing on each side and refilled the hydraulic fluid. I got it back and was concerned about something and called him. He immediately drove to my place and checked it out. Try to beat that from any dealer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I cannot speak for all dealers,just this one and they are big. They service a lot of dozers/skidsteers and farm tractors.
They have 10 locations in Kentucky/Ohio/WVa. I will buy my parts there but they are not going to do work on my tractor anymore.

We finally got the tractor pulled in two today,replaced the shifting fork,reinstalled the gears etc.Tommorow we have more fun,we get to line the 2 halves up and bolt it back together,its going to be tricky getting every thing lined back up with the tractor sitting on a dirt floor.It will take me 1/2 a day to pick all of my tools back up and put them away.

Got the tractor back together and it works and no leaks,but I'm missing a wrench.... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif NOT...
