john deere 4410
my john deere 4410 pto won't work. I connected my friends bush hog. Pulled the yellow knob. the light on the dash illuminates but the pto wont spin. I think it may have something to do with the seat safety. There are a pair of wires black and light blue that are not connected to anything to the left of the rear pto and another pair of the same colored wires to the right side of the pto (behind seat) Is there a harness that connects these two sets of wires? Can I try to run a set of wires from one pair to the other to override the seat ?

I went out to the barn with my camera but did not take a picture. I did not see any wires that were not plugged in anywhere and no wires by the pto. I am sure you must refer the the wires under the seat in the rear on both sides. Did you PTO work in the recent past? Did you go by the operational manual? Was the parking brake set before you turned on the PTO? First try the Operational Manual. The service manual has a troubleshooting check list. Do you have a service manual?- fuseboxer

Thanks for your reply. I purchased the tractor used. For the past four years I have never used the mid or rear pto. This is the first time i have attempted. As for the parking brake i did set the brake and then pull the yellow knob to engage the pto. Unfortunately it still didn't spin. Any other ideas?

The tractor has to have everthing by the book, operators manual period. Once you are shure of that the service manual has a step by step proceedures to check. It may be a relay in the fusebox or a very likely possibility may be a solenoid valve actuator. If you get voltage to the solenoid valve actuator when you pull the switch you get a noise of the actuator. The 4410 I have been lead to believe has a weakness in the wire going to the solenoid, it is exposed and can become broken or unpluged/disconnected at the solenoid. Many have had the problem----Fuseboxer

JD dealer has a CD shop manual. Sometimes a better deal may be on ebay. Use a search engine on our TractorByNet for your deere I believe someone posted a diagram. For me to make links or copies from my cd shop manual would be very hard for me. - - Fuseboxer

Today I traced all of the wiring. I also tested the fuses. It appears that the solenoids are all ok. I did notice that when I spin the mid pto by hand it spins freely. If I try to spin the rear it turns about half turn then stops. I can then spin it back counter clock and again it stops. Is this the way it works? Maybe my problems are mechanical? Of the three solenoids which is the rear pto?
