Jim, hours show over 7,000 before the meter broke. Is meter or cable broken? My JD 4255 has 11,600+ hrs on speed/hour meter

Jim, i have not tried to diagnose the broken tachometer. in your experience, is the drive cable usually broken, or is the meter on the dash broken? thanks

Cable is easiest & cheapest thing to check. Yes I've witnessed more failed cables than speed/hour meters
