john deere 445 thermostat gauge goes right to hot on start up

I just got tractor out of winter storage and started it up and had a problem with it getting hot. I replaced thermostat and coolant now soon as I turn key on the gauge cycles and goes right to hot when machine is cold . The gauge isn't stuck. I started mower and let it run with blades on up to temp no lights come on. I am thinking it is the sensor in block. If it is can I get one at local auto parts and does anyone have a part # thanks

its possible you might have the same issue I had. when i engaged the pto my temp gauge pegged and all the instrument lights went dim. the deck will not engage if the tractor is really hot so you are safe. Turns out the black ground wire on the instrument panel had a bad connection. remove the left guard and there is a plug on the instrument panel. little difficult to get to but it shows how to remove the instrument panel in the manual to replace the lights. I checked the plug to make sure it was grounded and took a small screw driver to make sure the receiver was closed to make it connect to the pin on the dash panel. Plugged it back in and fixed all my issues. Hope this helps.

You need to 1st find the sensor and make sure it's plugged in.
I think it's on the engine top front pointing down.
You need to pull the wire off and see what happens with it loose.
I would get the sensor from JD if it's bad, but I don't think they fail often. (Possibly # M117054 ~ $48)
You may find the wire shorted someplace.
