John Deere 455 dies when I engage PTO

Does it have a fuse for the safety switches ?

I didn't see how to take the shaft off with the deck removed so I decided not to try it. There was no bolt attaching it? I pulled on it and it didn't slip out.

The mower deck PTO shaft has a collar to release its grip on the PTO tractor stub. Slides right off when removing the mower deck. If that is what is causing you some grief.

I've checked the fuses.

Yesterday I disconnected the PTO wires at the rear, cranked it and pulled the pto switch and no change. I think that would eliminate the PTO itself being stuck.

I really appreciate all of the responses! I only get one shot a day at it. May just take a video of it this evening and post it tomorrow and maybe someone sees or hears something or not that I'm missing.

I'm thinking the PTO is fine. If I have to, I will remove the shaft again and try it. Thanks for the information! I'm learning...

I would recheck all the wires at the seat switch and the reverse safety switch maybe you missed something .......

How did you check the fuses? Did you take them out and check them with an ohm meter?

I only looked at them. I can check with an ohm meter next.

It's been raining for 2 days. Haven't had the chance to mess with it any more yet.

It was the seat safety switch. There's no mention anywhere that a 455 will shut down if you pull up on PTO switch to activate if your seat safety switch is bad. I know now after checking it head to toe.
