John Deere 47/59 snowblowers

A couple of weeks ago the local JD store had a 3520 Cab sitting out front with a 60" front mount Agrotrend blower with hydraulic turner / deflector. Must have been a customer order since its gone now.

Agrotrend also have a 72" FM model. No idea as to cost or quality - just offering another alternative.

I agree there should be a 72" blower; I am very disappointed with Deere for being arrogant and telling us what we should buy.

I do think the new front hitch system on the Deere is the best around. I can drop the loader and have the blower on in less then a 1/2 hour with no tools. This includes tie wrapping the hoses and putting the rear blade on.

Easy way to fix that problem.....The industry just needs to make an ASAE Specification for a front 3pt hitch like you find on the European farm tractors. That way other MFG's like Woods, RAD, Pronovost, etc.. could all make snowblowers and any other equipment which fits the front of ANY tractor.....Just like we have on the rear of our tractors.

Not only would that allow us to get what we want for equipment, but the added competition would force a drastic reduction in prices of front equipment.

I agree the Deere front hitch does look like the slickest setup around.

I am happy with my 47" blower. This is the start of the third year. The turf tires are a little wider than the blower. It works fine. Tight inside turns are a little bit of a concern because the inside wheel rides up on the snow. On the straight the wheels knock down the edge of the snow a little. This is not a problem, just not as pretty as it could be.

The guy across the street has an older 47" blower. At some point John Deere added a double layer of steel side plates. This would increase the overall stiffness.

I also bought an old blade from a friend, maybe 15 years old, but only used a short time. It fit on the same bracket as my new snow blower. Mixing and matching new and old equipment is a big plus in my book.

The "kit" to put the 47" on my 4100 tractor came with the extra bolt-on side plates (along with hydraulic hose extensions, drift cutting bars, and the right length drive shaft). I was told that the "larger" tractors are used for more commercial use, so thus the heavy duty side plates. You can probably order the side plate kit parts - look on JD Parts under the 47 blower listed in the 4100 attachments.

The chute rotation was less than +/- 90 degrees which was very annoying until I "re-wired it" ala Tim-the-tool-man-Taylor.

See the thread below for how to increase the chute rotation on the JD blowers (scroll down to where I post some photos)

I have both. I have had the 47" on my 455 garden tractor and I have had zero problems with it. It has always moved anything that has been in front of it.

I just got the 59" this year for my 4210. So far, it has performed great. Moved 14" of snow yesterday without missing a beat....

I would buy both again in a heartbeat.
