I'm certainly no expert on HST durability, and if I were pulling a plow in the ground all day, the HST isn't what I'd buy, but for all round use, I much prefer the convenience of the HST. Besides all the usual usesI did with mine, a neighbor pulled a hay rake all day once with my B7100 (even ran it out of diesel once and I had to refuel it and bleed the lines for him to go again), and then I ran a brush hog for 11 hours on the hour meter one day with the B2710 and 10 hours on the meter the next day. Now I can't say that they would have held up to doing that every day, but I sure wouldn't have hesitated to run them that way if I had the work to do.

If he's plowing 20 acres with a 4600 hydro he's got more time than anything else. To plow 20 acres with a 2 bottom plow is probably going to take you 80 hours. As far as the 4600 itself I wouldn't be surprised. Mine is one of the best tractors I've even owned. The dealer didn't believe me when I told him I lift 2000 lb. bales with it and had to come out and see. I told him we've probably lifted 15,000 bales with it. He said that tractor only has a lift rating of 750 lbs. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I asked Deere why only the hydro and never have gotten an answer.

Richard, I think your dealer got lb and kg mixed up. The OM says the 460 has a lift capacity, at the pivot point, of 2325 lbs and 1705 lbs at the edge of the bucket. Both figures are lift capacity to maximum height, 112"

I would not be afraid to use a hydro in any application, long term short term.

From my 500 hours limited experience on hydro, I agree. It grows on me everytime I use it.

As time goes by you will see more and more hydro's in the bigger tractors,I believe that just about all of John Deeres dozers have hydro,s now. There is a lot of good reading on hydro's and there use in not just mobile equipment. Type in your yahoo search hydro uses/reliability/manufacturers any key words and you will find lots of good information on hydro's and the way the technology is going,Really interesting and convincing reading.

John Deere even owns there own company that makes the hydro's Funk Transmissions(John Deere Owned) If John Deere owns the company that should tell you something. I believe eventually the old geared transmissions will be a thing of the past.

"I believe eventually the old geared transmissions will be a thing of the past."

While I don't necessarily agree with that, you can't believe how many folks here will really take issue with that comment.
