I think I have this figured out now.
I've been told that the 5085M is light on power. I will be using it on an acreage not farming with it. So I am after more reliability than power.
Has anyone used one or priced one?
Thanks

Would that be Marshalltown Iowa??? Not far from me. I'm just across the line on Interstate 35.

I would suggest starting another thread in the John Deere own/operate section with your questions about the JD 5085M. There are several members on TBN that own one.

Welcome to TBN.

Welcome! I own a 5105M which is the larger of the 5000 series tractors. I use mine for ranching, haying, etc. I really think I could have gotten by with the 5085M as far as horse power but I would still like to add more weight on the rear (thinking of filling rears with rimguard). You will like the M's as they are top of the line. If you have any questions just ask.

To answer the power question we need to know what work you want to do with it and what equipment you want to run off the PTO. Matched to the right equipment a 5085M has plenty of power but there is always someone with more land and more bottoms to his plow that needs more. What do you need or want?
