I see, I didn't consider that.

I see, I didn't consider that.

I'm not a JD mechanic, but one time I bought a HP laptop. Buttons didn't work. After bashing it and 2 days with customer service, I wasn't pushing the button hard enough. The tolerances were so close (good thing) it took a little use to get them nice and smooth. 7 years later that computer is still flawless. Now if my JD gives me $##@ I'll trade that sucker in a heart beat. I'll give it one major warranty fix.

Another thought.looking at my Vin, they made over 650 of my tractors in 2014 ( or the past 2 years, not sure of cutoff)... That's a lot considering the 2 weekend warriors on here that don't like theirs.

I don't understand the issue with the brakes. I would expect the brakes to work properly from day one. There should be no noticeable break-in period. It doesn't sound right to me.

You will be much more stable using the loader if the rear wheels are set as wide as possible.

You have a great tractor but only if your dealer does his job. I'm sure you paid good money for that, they need to take care of you. I know you will like that tractor a lot when they get it right. I have a 5105M and it's a beast!

Good luck with it.

The brakes do have me concerned a bit. When I first start the tractor the brakes will go to the floor on the first push, then they seem to work a little better after that. They almost feel like brakes on an automobile that have air in them.

Everything else seems to be in order and working well.

That's not right. The brakes should be solid, all the time. Don't let them give you some kind of song and dance. It's not normal!

Hi,

This spring I got a 5115M, basically the same. The brakes on mine do not do what you describe. The pedal is firm all the time and they work well. If you push firm it will lock up one rear.
Sounds like air in the lines to me.
Like one other noted the brakes did get better after some use. But the pedal was never soft.

I am glad to hear that the brakes should be better. When I used the tractor this afternoon I took a quick picture. The brake pedal went to the floor five or six times before it firmed up. Also it will not stop the tractor from even the slightest roll.

Other than this one issue I am glad we upgraded from the 5320.

They need to fix that quick before you have a serious accident. I don't use the brakes much normally but I sure wouldn't be out driving around without them working properly. It only takes a fraction of a second for something to happen. Don't take needless chances. Somebody could get hurt, or worse.

I have spent 28 years as a police officer/firefighter. I have seen far too many unnecessary injuries and deaths. I tend to get a little emotional thinking about it at times. I don't mean to preach but I would hate to see you in that situation. Don't run it until the brakes work right. Please.

wow.. i agree. Get those SOB back out there and fix it. I know what mine cost, yours was more. Get that fixed. I thought you meant they didnt grab enough yet or something. I drove 2 different 5085s around and though I didnt use the brakes much, I'm sure I would have noticed them going to the floor. Not normal. Hope they take care of you. My dealer said they spent 2 weeks getting my tractor perfect for delivery. I'll hold that against him if I need to. :)

Last thought, you prob have other JD dealers in your area, maybe call a different service department and find one that knows what they are doing. For example, the one in my town sells jd lawn mowers with a few big ones out front for show. My service dealer has rows and rows of ag grade stuff and there service guys seem very sharp. For example, he told me if i get dust accumulating on the rops around the rear window, Im not cleaning my air filters often enough. Thats the first place it will begin to show up because it creates a vacuum and the big rear window seal is the first place to let air in when filters are clogged. Can't learn stuff like that from most salesman.

I talked the salesman I have been dealing with. The tractor has to go back to have the power beyond installed and while the tractor is at their shop they are going to take another swing at correcting the brake issue. I also noticed that the radio antenna was missing. That is on the to do list as well.

The tires are set at the most narrow setting with three 100lb weights in both back tires. How difficult will it be to swap the back tires around with the extra weight already installed.
