Chris

I payed $5700.00 for my 553 loader but there is no comparison between the 512 or 522 and 553. The 553 is a MUCH heavier loader all around. If you could look at the two of them side by side you would see what im talking about. Later..... Bull

I've got the 5103 2wd with the 512 loader and so far it's worked real well for me. I dig with it, move large round bales (1500+ lbs), pull tree's etc. So far I've accomplished everything I've set out to do with it both in dry and wet conditions. Do I have to think about how to attack a project.... yes but if you're not thinking you'll end up in the safety forum:). Seriously if your budge is somewhat tight then there's nothing wrong with it. I just couldn't justify the extra money for 4wd or the larger loaders.

I believe the 4WD is better for loader work, but depending on the terrain and work being done it is not absolutely necessary. I believe ballasting is very important for loader work. I recently installed a 512 loader on my 5105 and have been pleased. I intentionally drove out onto a sand bar on the river a few weeks ago and was able to get a full bucket load of sand on the first try without tire spin and drive back off the bar with out incident. I considered that to be an accomplishment as sand can quickly bog you down. In my situation a 4WD would be nice for the just in case factor, but so far I have not found any situations where I needed it.
