Yesterday I decided to add some LED lights to the top of the ROPS on my 99 5410 open station. I tapped into the wires on the rear spotlight and ran wires up to the top for the LEDs so that they would come on when all the other lights came on. Everything was working fine until I went out to feed my cattle last night and I didn't have any lights at all on the switch. No hazards, dash, headlights...nothing but the turn signals work on the other switch. I checked all the fuses at the front of the console and they all look good. In the operators manual there is mention of a fusible link under the hood above the fuel filter. I didn't have a chance to check it last night and I'm at work today. Could this be my problem or have a really buggered something up?

The only other thing I did at the same time was I found 2 wires by the rear axle on the right side under the valves for the 3 point hit. They are connected by bullet connectors. One of the bullet connectors was broken so I repaired it. I thought these might be the wires for the fuel gauge because it hasn't been working. I disconnected the wire that I had just repaired but the lights still wouldn't work.

Thanks

Dave

How did you check your fuses? Did you use a non powered test light? One that has a ground clamp and a probe and lights up when there is power?

The fuses you need to check are 4, 7, 9,10, & 11, If you have power to fuse 7 the fusible link is OK

Fuse 7 30A feeds the light switch, the others are after the light switch and before the loads.

4 Rear work light 20A
9 Tail lights 20A
10 Hi beams 20A
11 Lo beams 20A

I just pulled them out and looked to see if they were burnt. I have a test light. I'll do that tonight.

I tested the fuses in the box. I'm getting power at fuse 7 and I have power on both sides of the terminals at the fusible link and if all the link is is just a wire that runs from one terminal to the other then it's okay.

When I test fuses 4, 9, 10 and 11 I'm not getting any power. I've taken the fuses out and tested them with a multi-meter and they are good.

I don't know where to go from here. My experience with this sort of stuff is minimal.

Thanks

Dave

A little further to.....

I've checked the big wire that goes from fuse 7 to the light switch and I've got power there. A local mechanic is saying it's likely the light switch that's the problem and it's unrelated to anything I did with adding the new lights or fixing the broken wire that I posted about originally. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I agree the light switch has failed. If you have power at fuse 7 the fusible link is OK, it's just a wire, smaller than the wire it protects,
The other fuses, 4, 9, 10, & 11 are powered from the light switch. Since they show no power, I assume you are putting the light switch to all positions to test, the light switch is not working.

If you had added too big of a draw (too many amps) the fuse after the light switch would have blown. I am guessing the tractor is approx. 20 years old and the light switch failed.

Yes I tested each fuse while cycling the switch through all of the positions. No power to any of them. The tractor is a 99. It just threw me off that it failed right after I added the new lights and reconnect the other wire.

Thanks
