John Deere 6400 losing prime? Wont start after cold.

Ok it runs fine but if you shut her down and let her sit over night it won't start right away the next day.

We turn the key on and wait and it will fire off and die. Work the throttle and turn key on wait and then try again and it just turns over and won't start. Turn it off back on again and turn it over again and after maybe 30 seconds it will fire off and run fine. If you shut it down and try to start right away it starts no problem .

Am I losing prime or is there an electric fuel pump that might be messed up?

Any ideas?

Needs new rubber fuel lines. I'm surprised on a 6400 they haven't already been replaced. For some reason John Deere uses some kind of fiber lines on those tractors and as they age they get so they leak enough for air to get into the system if they set awhile (like overnight), then you have to run the starter enough to purge th air before it will start.

All the tractors I've had with those lines I've had to replace eventually. Pretty sure that's your problem.

there should be a small check vale in the fuel line - replace it or add one deere sells them

I had to replace the fuel lines on my 2006 JD 6415. multiple leaks. I used Gates Barricade hose. They make it in both high and low pressure. I used the low pressure. High pressure is for fuel injected gas engines.

Ok thats what we will do and see what happens. We just bought it in May so still going through it finding a few things seems to run pretty good otherwise.

The OD of Gates hose was bigger than what JD used, so I had to order new clamps, which delayed my hose change by a few days. Just heads up. I still used the "squeeze" type band clamps, not the worm gear style. I found them on Amazon IIRC.
