Hi all, wondering the specs of my 1985 John Deere 650. I am planning on putting a 54" Box blade on it, and I need to know if it can handle about 500lbs. The box blade weighs 295lbs, but I figure with dirt it will weigh more. Any idea of my 3PT hitch lifting capacity?

You can lift it. My Yanmar YM186D came off the same assembly line and is comparable in size. I use a 4 ft Howse rotary mower, 464 lbs, and the center of that weight is much farther back than a box blade. I also have a 750 lb 3 point backhoe on my larger tractor that the little YM186D can't lift.

However ... I'm not sure you have the weight and traction to do useful work with a box blade that size. It may simply anchor you to the ground. My little tractor, about the size of yours, came new with a 4 ft blade and that's what feels right for it. The 5 ft blade I bought for the 24 hp YM240 needs some passes with the scarifiers before it will lift and carry dirt. I'm not sure that larger one is more productive overall.

I think the advice you need is 'how wide a box blade can I pull with a 1600 lb tractor?'.

Also - take a look at this TractorData page for your Deere 650.

well actually the ym186d weighs 101lbs lighter than my 650. Yes these tractors shared similar parts, but they were i fact a different design.
