John Deere 650 Tractor

Can anyone tell me about a John Deere 650 Tractor? I am looking for a relitively inexpensive tractor to use primarily digging post holes.

I found a 1983 John Deere 650 Tractor on craigslist for $3500. 2 cylinder diesel, front and rear PTO, 3-point with just over 700 hours.

Would adding this to my equipment inventory be worthwhile?

I had a 755 same series, and it was a wonderful tractor, I loved it. Most anything will work for a post hole digger. If its in good shape should do fine.

It vibrates and runs rough like a typical 2 cylinder, but will burn less fuel than a similiar 3 cylinder. Small, maybe 12hp. My neighbor had one with a loader and backhoe, he cleaned out horse stalls with it. We had a 750 when I was young, I learned to drive on it. Never had any trouble with it, other than needing a bigger tractor for the buisness, and traded it in. The 50 series by John Deere were well built machines in general.

Does it have a full travel Cat1 or Cat1-limited 3 point setup? Cat1-limited can not raise as high or spread as wide.

Those older Deere CUTs had a standard CAT 1 3PH. The only limitation to lift height was due to the smaller diameter tires.

I had a 670...good machine and sometimes I wish I still had it. They were tough and, for their size, quite overbuilt. In fact, you'll likely see some of the castings used on the 3005 Deere CUTS today.
