Hello all. I'm looking at a used 7' JD offset flail mower (not sure model) to put behind my JD 3038E (38hp/30pto hp) with loader for mowing back the road side a couple feet. It's pretty much all flat. Approximately 2 miles total. 1/2 mile out and back each way from the house. If it wasn't for some small (2" or less) brush, I was thinking of a sickle bar mower but know it would take up more room to mow around mailboxes. Should I be thinking more of a 6' offset flail or will the 7' be just fine? I was also thinking I could put it behind my uncle's JD 2640 (70ish hp) when brush hogging my mom's 48 acres instead of using his 6' brush cutter. Thanks in advance.

I believe JD rates all there flails to min 35 pto hp. Not to say that it won't work with 30. I'd look at the 6" model if available.
I'd also look into the "hammer" style knives but believe they do require more hp than the grass knives.
