Make certain it is in neutral. I can't remember if there are any more safety switches but it doesn't hurt to have the Pto off.

Do you have the optional front PTO with the electric clutch? (and if you do, is the switch in the "engaged" position?)

I believe there is a safety switch on the PTO.

One thing you might want to do is check the starter relay (not the solenoid...there's is a relay between the ignition switch and the solenoid). I had an intermittent no-start problem on my old JD750, and that's what it turned out to be. ISTR it being in a not-very-accessible place...I just got a new relay at an autoparts store and mounted it where it was easy to get at.

Checking whether you have it, or if it's engaged? ;) The toggle switch would typically be to the right of the light switch on the dash... if you don't have it there is likely a "blank" where the switch would be. I'm pretty sure the wiring for the PTO runs through and/or includes the ignition switch. It's either on or off :)

This all assumes, of course, that you've checked all the usual suspects (connections, wires, ignition switch etc etc...) Nothing kills the fun like a bad ground, or a starter or solenoid with a flat spot...

Welcome Bobby, I have a PDF of the Deere Tech manual you are welcome to if you'd like it. It will walk you through the troubleshooting.
Shoot me your email if you want it
