Buying Advice John Deere 790 4X4 advice

I'm still waiting for the price quote on the 990 and 4410.

This is a lot tougher choice than I had originally thought. I really like the 790 but for a little more (I'm assuming), I can get a 990 with more power. Then I'm thinking for a little more over that, I can get a 4410. Does it ever stop?

The 990 is more powerful than the 4410. You need at least a 4610 to beat it in terms of horsepower. A 4510 has 39 engine hp. 990 has 40.4.

Well it does , after a fashion /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I started with looking at grey market with around 18-20 hp . Wound up looking at a 2910 Kub . Took the wife to look at it . She looked at it ,then the 3130 sitting next to it . She said you'll probably want that one next year (the 3130 ) so you might as well get it now . So while I was on a Roll so to say I showed her a 3430 . I got the "it stops here at the 3130 " look /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Whatever you decide on I know you'll be a happy man . John

I looked at the 790 briefly because I really wanted something with more HP. Then I looked at the 4310 and the 990. The dealer wanted more for the 990 than the 4310. The 4310 had the ePowreverser. I ended up with the 4310.

do u really need the tandem trailer? if not u can delet that and save some $$$$ the 790 is a fine machine, but remember some of them don't have mid pto(think that was mentioned) don't know if that is important to u?also check out hydro, know u say u don't need it, but that is now. i personally would not own anything but , at least for my size property and my uses.

It looks like with the slightly smaller engine on the "newer" 790's, they are very close in hp and displacement to the 770 which they replaced in 1999. The 770 has 81 cu in, 25 gross hp and 20 PTO hp. My experinece is limited on my 770, but I also run out of traction before HP.

Does this trailer have single or dual axle electric or surge brakes?

You should get quotes from more than one dealer also. They vary considerably in what they charge. I got quotes from all over the map. Some dealers want the business more than others.

How do you like your 4310? What exactly is the advantage of the power reverser? Is the 4310 priced much better than the 4410? The best price I've gotten on a 4410 with no attachments is $14,900. I assume it's about $4500 more for the 430 loader and LX6 cutter! The sales guy is still working up a price for me though!

The power reverser is great. You put the tractor in whatever gear/speed you want and then flip a lever on the column to go forward or reverse. You can even do it without clutching. It is super for loader work. I am a gear guy so it works great for me. I paid $16,900 for the tractor and 430 loader with heavy duty bucket. I will have to dig out my paper work to split up the price. I never priced the 4410. I had a price in mind and worked up the tractor line until I nearly maxed out my $17K limit.
