John Deere 790 HELP! sounds like grinning gears when moving

Hello, when i started up my joh deere 790, no problem until started to move and it sounds like its grinding the gears when its in 1st, 2nd and going backwards. Stalls out at 4 & 3rd gear, any ideal what the problem is? the PTO fluid is low could that be it? oil level is good. Coolant is low

When you press the clutch in, does it act like the brakes are being applied? Does it stop immediately after you clutch?

Yes it only stalls out in higher gears

Make sure the parking brake isn't applied. If it is not applied check your brake linkages.

The "PTO fluid" is also the same fluid for the transmission and the hydraulics. If it's low, top it off and see if that makes a difference.

you have transmission problems, have it checked before it locks up

Any obvious fluid leaks? I've let my transmission/hydraulic fluid get a little low in the past but the gear noise is just louder. Not grinding or stalling. So I'd agree with whis above. Sounds bad.

My money is on parking brake. Either left on or linkages bound. OP, do you know what to look for?

I've left my brake on plenty of times. It never made a grinding sound and could not stall the tractor even in 4th gear. Now, my brakes are wet. Not sure about the JD 790.

Dry on 790. I've left it on and it definitely makes an odd noise.
