I have a JD 790, with the 419 loader, R4 tires, 4wd, only 171 hours the year model is 2002. It has been garage kept. I just never use it. Seriously considering selling and would like to know what it is worth.

It's somewhat dependent on your location, but as a comparison I paid $12500 for a 2003 790 with the 419loader. This machine had 24 hours on the meter when I bought it.
As a private seller, I think I'd ask $11000 OBO and see what response you get. I'd try your local craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums in the farm/garden forum first.

My dad said he saw a 790 in the paper this week with R4s and loader, they were asking $13,000. Think he said early 2000s model 400+ hours on it.

Did the price go up for the 3005? If so, that would help.
When I was shopping I found that (around here anyway) used compact 4wd tractors were very rare within a 100 miles and usually looked kinda rough for too much money. The atractive financing probably makes is tough to get a good price if it's too new, but you ought to do well.
