I have recently been reading about a new 3M product which is a panel adhesive.

If you get to working on that seal between the fiberglass and the metal fitting, might be a remedy. However, about any of the two-part epoxy's would likely work.

One feature mentioned with this 08115 product was filling a busted-out hole with a bolt in place, and after hardening of the epoxy, that the bolt can be screwed back out, leaving just the threads in place for future use.
Hope I can find out more info on that, as there must be a release to apply to the bolt threads for that to work. Anyone familiar with that trick?

Some of these modern adhesives are really amazing. Back when I was in high school I worked as a small engine mechanic in a place that sold and serviced boats, chain saws, and lawnmowers. A guy came in with a little outboard motor with a thrown rod protruding from the block. I took it apart, removed the loose metal, built it back up with some Marine-Tex, cured it overnight with a heat lamp, and that motor ran like new! Amazing stuff.

I sold & performed PDI on New JD 820 utility tractors & was employed at JD dealer from '66-'87. I'm 99% positive 820 came from Germany with a metal tank. I don't remember any JD tractors built before '87 with anything but metal fuel tank. IMHO the fuel tank schematic photo resembles metal but I realize there are some dependencies in parts catalogs. I attempted to check fuel tank spec's but failed to locate any on JD's site.


In reference to difference in HP according to Tractordata utility 820 was rated at 2100 rpm's while 1020 was rated at 2500 rpm's which is reason for difference in advertised HP.

IIRC Loctite sells a product like you describe. I think it is called "quick metal"? For fixing stripped threads, comes with a release agent for the bolt.

Maybe a tank can be sourced from a tractor salvage yard? No idea the demand, might be first to go, or maybe rusted out by the time the tractor gets junked?

Part# search on JD parts shows 12 models that the same fuel tank fits. Earliest serial # break had a different part#(AT31633) that subs to AR72910
