John Deere 855 PTO Engagment Magnet

I have a JD 855 and whether I am mowing or blowing snow the PTO egagement lever pops down 0 like the magnet is not holding it - can be reset and then it works for awhile.

I'd look for a safety switch cutting the PTO off. Seat switch would be my first guess. The system may believe you are off the machine and cutting off the PTO.

Seat safety switch checks good with an ohmmeter and problem persists with seat switch temporarily defeted. Anyone know about lubricating the PTO magnet linkage and an easy way to get to it?

Welcome to TBN!! You might want to re-post your question to the JD forum. I bet you will get lots of responses.

Might be the electronic box right under the PTO lever or the connections to it.
I would try checking the connector first. This box introduces a small delay in the safety switches so the PTO does not cut on and off every time you hit a bump and the seat goes up.

Otherwise, maybe the electromagnet has a life and yours is going bad? I don't have much experience with that.

Dan , there is a spring wire that holds lever in the forward/engaged position that mounts just on the underside of the dash. Is yours broken off by chance? Mine was and I had to replace it, but fortunately it is only a couple bucks. It solved the problem for me
