It's all about attracting new buyers... and getting the attention of existing ones that wouldn't look otherwise. So, regardless of whether we agree that it's functional, attractive, or a complete waste of a good tractor, there's plenty of people that are looking at Deere - perhaps even for the first time.

The crowd that comes to mind first are many of the same kinds of people that were at the Barrett-Jackson auctions in January. Lots of money, not necessarily a lot of taste. For the first time (I watch some of it every year), pickups and tractors were getting a lot of attention - and a lot of money... the Chip Foose Deere was mentioned more than a few times. If certain people think a device is cool, they'll buy it. Some people are in it to make money, some just to spend it. There's no way you'd believe a Shelby Cobra 427 would fetch $5 million even a few years ago. But, it took a batch of them going for big money after some marketing folks (including the man himself) got Shelby to start signing run-of-the mill cars and badging others under his name.

So, mark my words: there will be more tractors going for more money at auctions. Chip Foose can be thanked for part of that rise. And you can be sure that there will be at least a few brand new Deeres parked (unused) in spotless garages thanks to this effort.

After all, New Holland's delivering some 8Ns, aren't they?? Just ask any farmer what they think of that tractor.

I guess some of you guys are not familiar with Chips work. Chip builds hot rods that he considers works of art. No one expects him to build an implement of husbandry or a realistic daily driver for that matter. The paint job alone costs more than anything I drive. I couldn't keep that safe.
He's taking a lot of online heat from the workin tractor folks. Not sure what people expected but his task was to build a green "hotrod work of art" that could pull people around on hayrides. Now we know what that looks like.
Don't worry, like the rest of these type of creations, no one is going to try to mass produce them. :)

Yea I'll admit thats a little different, But how do you customize a tractor like a hot rod ? Give it to FOOSE, this man is an artist!! Put his name on it and people will take a look no matter what it is. I would'nt mind putting it in my garage.

I would much rather have the 4020 original in Deeres' video. Now that would be one to have.

To each his own, but my opinion is thats kinda not even a 4020 let alone a tractor. Its like something out of a 60's sci-fi mutant farm operation. But being Foose did it its worth somthing to someone some were. I think foose should stick to cars and Deere should have approached a real tractor restoration outfit.:ashamed: If I was to win that thing, I would sell it asap, or better yet trade it for more implements, tractors, anything.:D

What a waste of a good tractor.

Looks like a supersized version of a 60s, front engined Indy car with a canopy.

The John Deere 4020 is the best farm tractor ever built hands down.:D If you have ever worked ground with one you would agree no tractor steered and handled better, period! Most of these tractors are still earning their keep. Most in good condition will fetch 150% of new price with several thousand hrs on the meter. An oringinal 4020 brought $40,000 at auction a couple of years ago in Ohio. It was a one owner tractor. I think if they would of just restored it to original (which Deere did have a full time restorer on staff, maybe still does) and certified it as being done by Deere & Co they would have people breaking down the doors to sign up to win. I guess for some of us it looked like they messed with a work of art that was already perfect.

It may fetch a lot of money one day. Maybe Jay Leno will want to add it his collection simce it kinda looks like a classic car now.:D
