John Deere F1145
Hi, just joined the site, have lurked here some. I have a John Deere F1145 that has been sitting(inside barn) for 5+ years. Trying to get it going, it has the Yanmar 3 cylinder diesel in it. Put new battery in, some fresh fuel in one tank, and pumped the manual prime lever on the fuel pump. A lot. Didn't get anything, not even smoke. The fuel system goes from tanks to fuel pump, fuel filter, then to something that the 3 lines come off to go to injectors. I have fuel to this point, but when I take the lines off, none. Fuel solenoid seems to be working. Any ideas? I'm somewhat stumped at this point, I'm pretty sure the problem is in that device but don't want to go taking it apart yet. Thanks in advance for the help.

When I encounter a diesel engine that is difficult to bleed air from inj pump I apply short bursts of compressed air into fuel tank neck blocked off by shop towel to help force fuel to inj pump.

Talked to an equipment mechanic, he said its the injection pump rack stuck. He said to get some sea foam in there and let it work a few days to try and free it up. Ill post wht happens

That's not a bad idea BUT.. the seafoam HAS TO reach the inj. pump.. by just pouring it in the tank, its just gonna sit there..
Personally I would take off the inlet line, blow any remaining fuel out of the pump inlet and pour it directly into the inj. pump inlet..
Give it afew cranks on the starter & pour in some more.. its probably not gonna work but its worth a try..

Pumpguy, yes, that's exactly what I did. I don't have high hopes for it either but we shall see. I'm out of town this weekend so didn't have time to work on it anyway until next week. I did the Seafoam yesterday, I'll let it work over the weekend and see what happens Monday.

Well, as expected, still no fuel out of pump. Guess i need to dig in a little deeper. Theres a side plate on the pump im going to take off, not sure whats behind it. Anyone know of a good shop to rebuild pump, or any other suggestions?

I can do the pump for you.. DO NOT take the pump apart.. you might THINK your helping but your not.. it makes extra work for others & that ends up costing more.. send me an email or PM if you want my help.. TPG

I just looked up your pump.. its a Zexel A pump.. you can take the side cover off, BUT.. use the correct size Phillips bit AND a hand impact..
Those screws are tight.. and soft.. they'll round off very easily.. inside are the springs & gear segments.. IF you use some finess, you might be able to free the segments.. they rotate back & forth.. Penetrating oil is your friend here.. tap, tap, spray, let it sit.. tap, tap, spray..
You get the idea.. just remember, if you break stuff.. it gets expensive QUICK..
The engine & pump have to be timed before pump removal.. keep that in mind..
