Well they go way back to the 1800's for one thing.

But maybe the most important thing is, while Chevy, Ford, and AMF were building Vegas, Pintos and wannabe Harleys(in the early 70's), John Deere was building 4020's and such. Yes, they had some tractors with design issues but I think they were striving harder to build and sell a quality product while everyone else threw quality out the window.

Many a deere after 20 years old sells for the same or more than when new.

Well, I have a JD zero turn, my first John Deere anything (except for a John Deere pedal tractor, all iron and steel and rubber, when I was a kid way back in the late '50's :) .) So I guess I can make a comment here. I think what Kyle said really nails it with a lot of people....."Well they go way back to the 1800's for one thing." How many other tractor companies have made it in-tact through all those years without merging with other mfr's or re-emerging/re-inventing themselves later? Sure, JD hung on kind of long with the 2-cylinder engine and the others were starting to pass them by with horsepower and features (International, Case....), but that all changed in 1960 and they never looked back.

My BIL is manager of three JD dealerships in So. CO. and I was helping with food preparation during a John Deere Days event a year ago. I saw a young farmer admiring a 7000-series 4x4 tractor and he said to his partner, "They are pricey, but they're also the best." Seems to be a common perception with a lot of people out there.

I know, it's weird. I grew up with red IH's, (not Case IH, even before that) and still always wanted a green one. There a true classic, and I didn't mind paying a bit of a premium for mine at all. Orange may be pretty good too, but it'll never come close to being as cool. I've never seen a dude with a Kubota tattoo......

I wanted a lawn mower with Quality behind it's name. Not only with the mower itself but with good dealers who can get parts if need me. John Deere I believe is synonamous (did I spell that right?) with the word Quality.

For just cutting grass, my LA 165 is everything I expected in a tractor. I just love it. The ride, steering wheel, control, even cut, great looks and it is priced right for my budget. If I get over 10 years on the LA series, I will get another one when the time comes. I have been bringing it to the dealer once a year for service, and so far so good. :D

I have an LT133 that is nine years old and has seen plenty of use. Had to put a starter on it the other day, but that is it. Has been a really reliable machine. Have even cut a little pasture with it. don't know how the old LT compares to the LA

Looks like you have this one. John Deere LT 133 Lawn Tractor (Non-Current) You have a nice Kohler engine in that unit. Looks nice, of course all John Deere look nice. The LA are the newest residential series that are great!

The LT 133 is the cheapest higher end JD, it was a stout little tractor. It does not compare to the lesser expensive LAs. The quality was better and it was not sold at Home Depot. The Ls and LAs are but not the LT and up tractors. Could you imagine and 318 at HD or a 455 diesel. That machine MOWS!!!!!!!!

Just because a JD is sold at Home Depot does not make it a poor quality machine. The lawn mowers at HD are more for people who just need a tractor to cut grass. If that is all you need, I can tell you the LA Series is great! If you need something to go over more harsh terrian, want to buy attachments to do other work, than the 300 or 500 Series is the way to go. I looked very carefully at the LA Series, talked to a lot of people and did a careful search on the quality of the 100 Series, compared them to Caftsman and Simplicity to name a few, and the John Deere overall came out on top. I also am not convinced that a Kohler 17 hp will last longer than a V-twin 22 or 24 hp Briggs and Stratton. The more hp on for just cutting grass (up to a point) will not work as hard and will last longer (as long as you maintain it). I don't care if the frame of the 300 Series is more durable than the LA. I have yet to see a frame crack even on a cheaper tractor for just mowing grass on the flat land in beautiful Texas.

Ever since I purchased my John Deere tractor, everyone seemed to be excited about my purchase. It seems like there are more people who have a love for their JD equipment than any other brand. I have complete strangers talking to me about their John Deere tractors and how much they love it. It's like owning a a Harley Davidson and other bikers reaching out to you. I find this very interesting. :)

The way i figure.. All that extra money you pay for essentially the same hp of tractor from the other brands is kind of like your membership dues in the 'eliteist tractor club'.. etc. ;) :)
